Virginia Offers Free Online Renter Education Course

The Virginia Housing Development Agency (VHDA) has recently made available a free online renter education course titled “How to be a Successful Renter,” which covers the rights and responsibilities of renting. The online education course is designed to equip renters with the knowledge necessary to be responsible tenants and to avoid the eviction process. It is divided into nine sections, with an assessment at the end of each that learners must pass to earn a certificate.

NSPIRE Demonstration Registration Now Open

HUD opened registration for its new National Standards for the Physical Inspection of Real Estate (NSPIRE) Demonstration. NH&RA encourages all eligible PHAs, owners and agents to participate in the NSPIRE demonstration. Properties will be given an advisory NSPIRE score and the most recent UPCS score will remain on the books. NSPIRE demonstration participants will have the opportunity to shape the new REAC inspection protocol and to prepare in advance of the mandatory changes.

Pennrose Serves as Development Partner for Winning $30 Million HUD Choice Neighborhood Application

The City of Newport News, VA and the Newport News Redevelopment and Housing Authority are the recipients of a $30 million grant from HUD’s FY 2018 Choice Neighborhoods Initiative (CNI) Awards. Pennrose and the Newport News Redevelopment and Housing Authority will replace Ridley Place’s 259 public housing units, as well as create 133 moderate-income housing units and 98 market rate units.
