GAO Releases Housing Choice Voucher Report

A new report released by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) indicates that several factors including rising rents, declining household incomes, and decisions to expand the number of assisted households were key drivers of the approximately 29 percent increase (before inflation) in housing agencies’ expenditures for the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program between 2003 and 2010.

HUD Solicits Comments on RAD Program

HUD recently released Notice PIH-2012-18 to provide program instructions for the Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD or Demonstration), including eligibility and selection criteria, and to solicit public comment on these instructions. RAD was authorized in the 2012 HUD appropriations bill, H.R. 2112. Although the Act specifies that HUD provide an opportunity for public comment only on draft eligibility and selection criteria / procedures that will apply to the selection of properties, HUD has decided to seek public comment on all program requirements.

New Data System Will Track Conservation Measures in Public/Indian Housing

The Tuesday, February 14 Federal Register included a notice that HUD is creating the Capture Energy Efficiency Measures for PIH (CEEMP) data system to track the amount and types of Energy Conservation Measures being implemented within Public and Indian units.
