Tanya Zahalak is a Senior Multifamily Economist at Fannie Mae. She received a B.A. in Applied Math from Washington University in St. Louis and a Masters in Finance from Johns Hopkins University.

Tanya has been involved in housing finance for over 20 years. For the past decade, her work in Fannie Mae’s Multifamily Economics and Market Research group has involved following trends in multifamily markets at the metro level. She also has a particular focus on multifamily affordable housing including market rate affordable segments and rent-restricted segments and regularly publishes research on the affordable segments of the multifamily market.

Recent publications include “Assessing the Market Rate Affordable Multifamily Sector,” and “2022 Outlook for Multifamily Affordability – A Dramatic Decline in Affordability.”
