The Alabama Housing Finance Authority (AHFA) is committed to encouraging the development and preservation of affordable rental housing for Alabamians with special needs. Thus far, developers have committed to set aside more than 210 newly constructed or rehabilitated units to house disabled and homeless households throughout the state.

California Implements Statewide Rent Control

On September 11, the California State Legislature passed the Tenant Protection Act of 2019 (AB 1482) authored by Assembly member David Chiu (D) of San Francisco. Under the bill, yearly rent increases for most housing will be capped at five percent plus inflation for the next ten years, starting January 1, 2020.

$10 Million Available for Rehabilitation of USDA Rural Development Multifamily Housing Properties in Minnesota

Minnesota Housing announced the availability of $10 million in state appropriations through the Rental Rehabilitation Deferred Loan (RRDL) pilot program for the rehabilitation of buildings that currently have a USDA Rural Development Section 515 mortgage. Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) released Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) #2019-4 for the development and preservation of affordable rental housing for large scale projects, small scale projects and veteran projects (both large and small). NOFA submissions are due November 4, 2019 by 4 pm PDT whether submitted electronically or in paper form. Late submissions will not be considered.

Ohio Posts Final Draft of 2020-2021 QAP

The Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) posted the final draft of its 2020-2021 QAP. The QAP will be presented to the Multifamily Committee of the OHFA Board on September 11. The meeting will be held at OHFA in the Roger McCauley Board Room at 10 am EDT. With recommendation from the Multifamily Committee, the QAP will then be presented to the full OHFA Board for approval on September 18. The Board meeting will be held at OHFA in the Roger McCauley Board Room at 10:30 am EDT.

Kentucky Releases New Weatherization Program Manual

Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC) released a new weatherization program manual. The new program manual is more user-friendly and topical. It incorporates past public notices and more information on latest topics of interest, such as training and multifamily projects.
