Congress reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, which included Promise Neighborhoods, a sister program to the Choice Neighborhoods Initiative.

The 56 existing buildings will be replaced with 49 newly constructed, Energy Star rated modular structures with 200 apartments. The site will be reconfigured to enhance programmed recreational space and green space, featuring a basketball court, new playgrounds, and a new walking and biking path throughout the community.

Hunt Mortgage Group announced that Doug Vikser has joined the firm as Managing Director. He will report to Bill Hyman, Senior Managing Director and Chief Production Officer, and will be based in El Segundo, California.

Aniko Rakita, has joined Churchill Stateside Group’s Dallas, TX location as the Vice President, West Regional Production Officer for CSG. Rakita is responsible for debt and equity origination for both affordable and market rate properties in the West and Southwest regions.

Tasked with ensuring Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac meet a requirement to serve underserved markets, the Federal Housing Finance Agency proposed a rule that will allow the GSEs to earn Duty to Serve credit activities related to several HUD housing programs. A public comment period on the proposed rule is open for 90 days.

FY 2016 funding includes level and higher funding from FY 2015 levels for many key HUD housing programs. In most cases, the funding levels stop short of fully funding the programs’ needs, but are better than expected. Congress approved the omnibus funding measure on Friday, December 18.

HUD finalized Fair Market Rents (FMRs) for fiscal year 2016. FMRs are used to set payment standards and rents for several HUD-assisted housing programs.

Up to $23,109,096 in Multifamily Direct Loan funding for the development of affordable multifamily rental housing for low-income Texans is available to for-profit and nonprofit entities that meet the requirements of the NOFA.

The 2016 Housing Tax Credit Application was updated on December 2, 2015 to change how an Applicant elects points for QAP Section 6.3.3 – Projects that have Federal Project-Based Rental Assistance, HUD-VASH Voucher Assistance or Local Project-Based (PHA) Voucher Assistance.
