President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Scott Turner, a former Texas legislator, NFL player and community advocate, to serve as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Turner previously led the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council during Trump’s first term, where he facilitated over $50 billion in private investments in Opportunity Zones to stimulate economic development in underserved communities.

Turner’s background includes nine seasons in the NFL, followed by public service as a Texas state representative from 2013 to 2017. He is also a motivational speaker, businessman and the founder of the Community Engagement & Opportunity Council, which focuses on mentorship and community upliftment. His nomination has garnered support from housing industry groups like the National Housing Conference and the Mortgage Bankers Association, who anticipate his leadership in addressing housing affordability and advancing innovative housing policies.

Turner’s priorities at HUD are expected to include expanding programs like Opportunity Zones and addressing affordability challenges in housing markets nationwide. His nomination reflects Trump’s broader cabinet appointments aimed at economic revitalization and housing innovation.
