After ten years of serving as the Commissioner of the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) in Georgia, Mike Beatty is moving on to become the President and CEO of Georgia’s Great Promise Partnership, Inc., a nonprofit offering a unique workforce development opportunity for Georgia. Beatty was appointed to serve as Commissioner of DCA in June 2003 by Governor Sonny Perdue and was reappointed by Governor Nathan Deal in January 2011. During his tenure as Commission of DCA, Beatty helped launch a number of community-building programs, including Team Georgia, Building Opportunity on Main Street, Georgia Dream Homeownership, and other state programs. These programs created more transparency between government members in Georgia, revitalized downtown districts through historical rehabilitation, allowed more Georgians the opportunity of owning homes, and provided a number of incentives of promote community development in the state.
Governor Deal appointed Gretchen Corbin to serve as the new commission for DCA. Previously, Corbin served as deputy commissioner for Global commerce at the Georgia Department of Economic Development beginning in 2011. She has worked with the Georgia Department of Economic Development since 1998, serving in many capacities, including Division Director for International Operations and Director of Project Managers for Existing Industry & Recruitment. Corbin will replace Beatty beginning August 1, 2013. In an interview, Beatty stated, “I want to work with Commissioner Corbin to be sure there’s a seamless transfer of leadership. I want to pass on to her the culture of DCA and confirm for her the impact this agency has on all the people of Georgia.”
