The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a new federal eviction moratorium through Oct. 3 in communities experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases. As of Aug. 1, more than 80 percent of counties were experiencing substantial or high COVID cases and would be covered under the new eviction moratorium. The CDC’s interactive map displays county level transmission rates.
If a county is not currently experiencing substantial or high transmission but later does, the county will become subject to the eviction moratorium. If a county currently experiencing substantial or high transmission later declines for 14 consecutive days, then the moratorium no longer applies.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) released a Rental Assistance Finder, which allows people to find aid based on the state or territory or tribe or tribal lands where they live. The Eviction Lab compiled a list of more than 600 community resource organizations working to prevent eviction. And The New York Times ran an article from Surgo Ventures, which includes maps detailing the risk of evictions by county.
