Several news outlets are reporting that President-elect Joe Biden will nominate Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-OH) as HUD secretary. Fudge was first elected to federal office in 2008, is the member of the House Agriculture Committee, a member (and former chair) of the Congressional Black Caucus and served as mayor of Warrensville Heights, OH from 2000 to 2008.
A Washington Post article claims, “Biden chose Fudge in part because he saw her as a voice for working families and as someone who has federal government experience and had been a mayor who dealt with HUD policies on a local level, according to a transition official who was not cleared to speak publicly. Biden also saw her as a longtime champion of affordable housing, urban revitalization and infrastructure investment.”
Representative Fudge is a co-sponsor of the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act (AHCIA) – H.R. 3077 – and is the lead sponsor of a number of measures in the 116th Congress supporting low-income Americans addressing an array of areas including Head Start, nutritional assistance and utility assistance.
