The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has released a report entitled “Better Buildings Through Executive Action” which is the second phase of a major effort by the organization and partners to encourage the Obama Administration to make full use of all available legal tools to improve the energy efficiency and sustainability of multifamily and commercial buildings. In the report, USGBC argues that sustainable building practices not only create jobs, but also support economic growth and reduce the sector’s environmental impact. The organization touts significant efforts by the current administration and Federal agencies to improve energy efficiency of buildings including the Better Buildings Initiative proposed by the Obama Administration; the Commercial Building Asset Rating pilot program developed by the Department of Energy (DOE); the Multifamily Green Initiative at Fannie Mae; the Rental Policy Working Group between Obama Administration, HUD, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Treasury; and more. The report also presents 32 additional policy options within 12 different substantive areas of federal policy and 23 administrative programs.
