Recently the Senate Banking Committee voted to approve President Obama’s nomination of Carol Galante as the next Federal Housing Administration (FHA) Commissioner and Maurice A. Jones as the next Deputy Secretary of HUD. Ms. Galante, who previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Multifamily Housing at HUD, was approved in a 13-9 vote. Maurice A. Jones received unanimous approval. In the same vote, the subcommittee also approved the nomination of Thomas Hoenig as the next Vice Chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).

The nominations will now go to the full Senate for a vote. However, Republican Sen. Bob Corker has said he will block a Senate floor vote on the nomination of Galante until the administration comes up with a plan for the GSEs.
