President Obama intends to nominate Maurice A. Jones to succeed the retired Ronald C. Sims for the position of Deputy Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Mr. Jones has served as President and publisher of Pilot Media since 2008 and prior to that served as Vice President of the Landmark Publishing Group within Landmark Media Enterprises. In addition, he has held numerous political positions such as Deputy Chief of Staff to former Virginia Governor Mark Warner, Commissioner for the Virginia Department of Social Services, and during the Clinton Administration served as Legal Counsel, Deputy Director for Policy and Programs, and Director of the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund at the Department of the Treasury. Mr. Jones holds a B.A. from Hampden Sydney College, an M.Phil. in International Relations from St. John’s College at Oxford University, and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. Jones must still be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
