The National Low Income Housing Coalition today released “Out of Reach 2011.” This annual report contains a side-by-side comparison of wages and rents in every county, Metropolitan Area, combined non-metropolitan area and state in the United States. The report includes:
- Calculation of the housing wage, defined as the amount a person working full-time must earn to afford the FMR on a two-bedroom unit
- Number of hours one must work at the minimum wage and the average renter wage in order to afford typical rents.
- Local wage and income data for comparison purposes.
The preface to this year’s report is authored by Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD), the Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.
