The Center for Budget and Policy Priorities has issued a new paper titled “Converting Funding of Some Public Housing Developments to Section 8 Subsidies Would Help Preserve Needed Units.”

Key findings from the report included:

  • Added Resources Needed to Preserve Public Housing “” But Sufficient Up-Front Public Funds Are Unlikely to Materialize
  • Proposed Section 8 Conversions Would Help Preserve Developments
  • Revisions Needed to Expand Housing Choice and Protect Tenants
  • The Proposed Demonstration Program Would Have Modest Costs and Allow Testing of Key Policies
  • Other Preservation Measures Are Needed But Would Not Be Sufficient
