Pre-Conference Symposium on Preservation Strategies Agenda

NH&RA’s 2019 Pre-Conference Symposium on Preservation Strategies will focus on creative approaches to meeting the ever growing need to recapitalize the existing LIHTC and HUD-assisted portfolio. The pre-conference will explore a multitude of financing strategies and products as well as current and prospective policy resources to meet the ever growing need for preservation resources. The Symposium’s mix of case studies, transaction-based education and collaborative policy dialogue makes this a can’t miss event for affordable housing developers, financing professionals, Housing Finance Agencies and preservation stakeholders.

Defining the Scope of the Preservation Challenge

Year-30 and qualified contracts and expiring subsidies, oh my! This kick-off session of our Symposium on Preservation Strategies will outline the large and ever-growing preservation risk facing the affordable housing industry. Panelists will articulate the scope of affordable housing preservation challenge across the LIHTC, HUD-assisted and USDA RD portfolios by exploring current market dynamics.  The panel will also explore how past preservation challenges may inform the future federal policy and market solutions.

State & Local Preservation Solutions

Learn how local communities are responding to meet their preservation goals. Oftentimes the first step is acknowledging the problem and forming an inter-disciplinary working group to address it. Hear how the National Housing Trust, a non-profit developer that also coordinates the national Preservation Working Group, state housing finance agencies and a CDFI are working to build coalitions, design and implement policy and financing tools to preserve affordable housing in their jurisdictions.
