U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Assistant Secretary Sandra B. Henriquez has announced an additional three public housing agencies (PHA) that have been chosen to participate in HUD’s Moving To Work (MTW) program. The PHAs are in Champaign County, Illinois; Orlando, Florida; and Tacoma, Washington. They join 30 other PHAs already participating.
The MTW program allows select housing agencies to design and test innovative housing strategies that assist lower income families living in public housing or who receive HUD’s Housing Choice Voucher Program assistance. The program’s three primary goals are:
- Reducing costs and achieve greater cost effectiveness in federal expenditures;
- Giving incentives to families with children where the head of household is working, is seeking work, or is preparing for work by participating in job training, educational programs, or programs that assist people to obtain employment; and
- Increasing housing choices for low-income families.
