Afternoon Biking Excursion to the Chappaquiddick Island

Friday, July 20, 1:00-5:00 pm

Cross from Edgartown to Chappaquiddick Island on the Chappy Ferry and you pass from the most historic and graceful towns on Martha’s Vineyard Island to its least developed district, boasting several beautiful beaches, nature reserves (Wasque with a $5 entry fee and the Cape Poge Wildlife Refuge with a $5 entry fee) and a tranquil Japanese garden, Mytoi. On the island, you can do a myriad of activities: hike, fish, bird, sunbathe, ride, and/or picnic!

“Chappy,” as it’s called, is about three miles (5 km) across, and has only one paved road named, creatively, Chappaquiddick Road. The rest of the roads are single-lane sand tracks okay for bicycling in most places. There is only one shop in a house that sells a few necessities (milk, etc.), but no other commerce or emergency services, so bring everything you need: water, picnic/food, drinks, sunscreen, etc.

Remember that Chappy is a hilly countryside surrounded by ocean waters, so it tends to be cooler and breezier than the Vineyard as a whole. So, please dress accordingly!)

Logistics of our Biking Excursion:

1:00pm: Meet in front of the Harbor View Hotel for bike rental fitting
1:30pm – 5:00pm: Take the Chappy Ferry and ride to the island
5:00pm: Return bikes to Harbor View Hotel.

Off-site Networking Dinner

Friday, July 20, 6:30-10:00 pm

Join us for a traditional Vineyard Clam Bake at Home Port Restaurant, a local favorite since 1930.  We will depart the Harbor View hotel for Menemsha, a quaint fishing village known for its world famous sunsets, lobster dinners and famed clam chowder. This waterfront restaurant is truly an iconic landmark. So don’t miss this NH&RA and Vineyard tradition!

Logistics of our dinner:

6:30pm: Meet in front of the Harbor View Hotel for transport to restaurant
10:00pm: Return to Harbor View Hotel.
