The Hawaii Public Housing Authority is considering a proposal that would effectively dismantle the state’s oversight of public housing. In place of the state’s previous public housing, the proposal envisions privately owned or rental units occupied by self-sufficient families. Under the proposal, the agency would sell some units to tenants and redevelop rental projects under a mixed-income model aimed at de-concentrating poverty while preserving affordability. Read more…
