In 2016, Colorado Housing Finance Agency will join together with a broad coalition of business and community partners to ask the Colorado General Assembly to extend the State Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program through 2019.
In just one year, the State LIHTC program has supported the development of 1,902 affordable rental housing units and leveraged $168.2 million in new private sector investment into Colorado’s affordable housing needs. The construction of these 1,902 units is estimated to generate nearly $593.8 million in economic impact. These results would not have been possible without State LIHTC. Yet without legislative action, the program will expire at the end of 2016.
At a time when Colorado’s housing needs have exacerbated to unprecedented levels, local communities need State LIHTC to remain available as they grapple with ways to keep their neighborhoods strong, vibrant, and accessible to a variety of residents—including low and moderate income workers, seniors, veterans, homeless and special needs populations.
