HUD has launched new guidelines and resources to bolster the nation’s affordable housing stock against climate-related challenges through rapid retrofitting and weatherization efforts. The Build for the Future Retrofit Guide is a multi-agency collaboration that highlights resources available under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). This guide provides detailed information on how developers and housing organizations can access federal funding—including tax credits, grants, loans and rebates—to enhance energy efficiency, water conservation, climate resilience and renewable energy integration in affordable housing. Additionally, HUD has updated its Funding Navigator, an online database designed to streamline the search for funding opportunities linked to the IRA and BIL. Improvements to the tool include simplified search fields and clearer eligibility criteria.
