Eligible Minnesota taxpayers can contribute at least $1,000 up to $2 million to the State Housing Tax Credit Program and Contribution Fund and, in return, receive a State Tax Credit Certificate (TCC) equal to 85 percent of the contribution amount. Contributions will provide funding for loans for eligible housing projects in communities throughout the state. The contribution process for 2024 is as follows:
- Eligible taxpayers complete the online application;
- Minnesota Housing reviews the application. If the application is accepted, Minnesota Housing will email a form for the taxpayer to sign with payment instructions;
- Taxpayer submits and Minnesota Housing receives the signature document and contribution funds within the timeframe provided in the email; and
- Minnesota Housing issues a TCC to the taxpayer within 30 days of receiving the signature document and funds.
When completing the online application, taxpayers will indicate if they are contributing to the General Contribution Pool or to a specific Qualified Project. Contributions are irrevocable and contributors are encouraged to review the Program Guide to understand how their contribution may be used. Minnesota Housing cannot provide tax advice and recommends consulting with a tax professional.
Please note that the deadline to submit applications for tax year 2023 has passed.
