The U.S. Department of Labor is undertaking its first comprehensive review in almost 40 years of the regulations that implement the Davis-Bacon Act and related laws, requiring employers on federally-funded or assisted construction projects to pay locally prevailing wages to construction workers. Comments on the proposed rule are due by May 17, 2022.
On February 16, Senators Murray, Warren, Gillibrand, Smith and Schumer sent a letter to Secretary Turner regarding the hundreds of HUD probationary staff who were terminated this past Friday and plans to cut the agency’s workforce by 50 percent (or nearly 4,300 staff).
Secretary Turner announced the launch of a DOGE Task Force within HUD to eliminate waste, fraud and abuse.
Scott Turner was confirmed by the full Senate, 55-44, as Secretary of HUD on February 5.
Secretary Turner issued an order directing HUD to stop any pending or future enforcement actions related to the 2016 rule entitled “Equal Access in Accordance with an Individual’s Gender Identity in Community Planning and Development Programs.”
