Texas legislation that would change the scoring system for allocating LIHTCs to encourage the development of affordable housing near veteran’s hospitals passed both houses of the Legislature and is on the desk of Governor Greg Abbott (R). H.B. 1558 would add a provision to the state’s LIHTC scoring system adding points for an application for a property in a county of between one and four million residents that is located within two miles of a veteran’s hospital, veteran’s affairs medical center or veteran’s affairs health center. The change would be effective September 1.
