New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy (D) signed Executive Order 128, which allows a tenant, upon written or electronic request, to have all or part of their deposit and their portion of the interest accrued applied or credited towards rent.

This Executive Order applies to any unit in New Jersey where a security deposit governed by the provisions of N.J.S.A. 46:8-19 et al. are used to the secure the lease. There are no qualifications necessary on whom is eligible to participate.
