On Tuesday, the Senate advanced a spending FY 2020 funding package that includes funding for Agriculture, Commerce-Justice-Science, Interior-Environment and Transportation-HUD. The full Senate is expected to vote on the package this week or early next week. Congress extended the deadline to pass FY 2020 funding from September 30 until November 21. Congressional appropriations negotiators are now discussing an additional short-term continuing resolution that would fund the government through December.
Major hang ups remain around funding for the wall along the U.S.-Mexico border affecting the Military Construction-VA, Defense, Homeland Security and the Labor-HHS bills. Furthermore, the different funding levels in the House and Senate still need to be resolved.
