Today, the Louisiana Housing Corporation (LHC) awarded $12.3 million in housing credits for the construction and rehabilitation of 20 affordable housing developments. The credits will be used to maximize the production and preservation of safe, affordable, energy efficient residential housing units in 13 parishes impacted by the Historic Floods of 2016.

“We recognize our responsibility as an affordable housing provider includes community building,” said LHC Executive Director E. Keith Cunningham, Jr. “Whether it’s communities impacted by natural disasters or those that continue to suffer from the lack of affordable housing, we intend to help them identify their housing needs and provide solutions that spur development, growth, and revitalization.”

The developments represent a mix of urban and rural projects that will produce 1,093 workforce housing units. Sixty-percent of the developments awarded are located in rural areas, including Louisiana’s most rent stressed parish – East Carroll Parish.

All of the developments funded through this program will benefit moderate- and low-income residents including people experiencing homelessness, people with disabilities and working families with children. Of the 20 development funded, six are located within the parishes most impacted by the flood – Ouachita, Lafayette, Acadia, St. Tammany, and Tangipahoa.
