WASHINGTON, DC (September 29, 2017) – The National Housing & Rehabilitation Association announced today that two Boston-based champions of affordable housing and development will receive NH&RA Affordable Housing Vision Awards in recognition of their stewardship and expansion of affordable housing opportunities for low-income families around the country. Pam Goodman, chief executive officer of Beacon Communities, and Chrystal Kornegay, Undersecretary of the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development, will be honored at an awards reception in conjunction with the NH&RA Fall Developers Forum on November 6th at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel.
“Our 2017 honorees represent the very best of our field. In their decades of work to promote affordable housing developments and policy, Pam and Chrystal have demonstrated leadership, commitment and, most importantly, imagination. From different professional settings, they have led teams responsible for the development and preservation of nearly ten thousand affordable apartments across Massachusetts and the nation.” said NH&RA Executive Director Thom Amdur.
For the past twenty-one years, first as vice-president of development and then chief executive, Pam Goodman has helped grow Beacon Communities into one of the most prolific affordable housing companies in the U.S. “Pam is a leader in the truest sense of the word. In addition to serving on the board of a variety of non-profits, she has created an inclusive organization that earned her a 2016 and 2017 Glassdoor Employees’ Choice Award.” said Amdur. As the leading affordable housing policy voice in the Baker-Polito Administration, Chrystal Kornegay stewards many of the state’s affordable housing programs and initiatives. Prior to her role with the Commonwealth, she served as president and chief executive of Urban Edge, a Boston-based non-profit community development corporation that provides affordable housing opportunities and services for residents of Egleston and Jackson Square and other neighborhoods across the city. “During Chrystal’s tenure, Urban Edge grew to become one of the fastest growing non-profit developers in the region and one of the most innovative. Her leadership enabled Urban Edge to undertake numerous complex, transformative and sustainable neighborhood redevelopment projects across the city,” said Amdur.
