President Trump signed into law on Friday legislation that provided both hurricane recovery funds as well as continued appropriations to keep the federal government funded through December 8.

Of the $15.25 billion provided towards disaster recovery, $7.4 billion goes to Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds. The money is considered an early “down-payment” to get recovery initiatives underway, though it is expected more funding will be necessary as states continue to survey and assess the damage.

As for keeping the government running, the Continuing Resolution will nearly maintain 2017 funding levels for HUD for the first three months of the 2018 fiscal year (which begins October 1). A 0.68% reduction in funding for these three months will be felt by all government agencies in order to satisfy spending caps created by the Budget Control Act.
