This past Monday, President-Elect Donald Trump officially nominated retired neurosurgeon and former presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson to lead the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in the new administration. If confirmed as HUD Secretary, the cabinet position will mark Dr. Carson’s first time holding political office.

In response to the nomination, NH&RA President and CEO Peter Bell commented that:

“Dr. Carson’s experience meeting the health care needs of people of all ages and backgrounds, combined with his deep commitment to fortifying families, provides him with a unique perspective for leading the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the agency responsible for strengthening communities and supporting affordable housing. Once confirmed, we hope that Dr. Carson will recognize housing as a platform for improving individual health and community quality of life, and seek to bolster the Federal Housing Administration’s mortgage insurance programs.”

Dr. Carson’s biography is available on the Carson Scholars Fund website.
