Congress reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, which included Promise Neighborhoods, a sister program to the Choice Neighborhoods Initiative.

The Promise Neighborhoods program seeks to break the cycle of inter-generational poverty by investing in the nation’s most distressed communities, which represent more than 700 schools. The program began in 2010. According to PolicyLink, it is seeing early success in kindergarten readiness, parent engagement, reading proficiency, and fewer school absences.
