HUD has released a Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for $5,000,000 in FY 2012 Choice Neighborhoods Initiative (CNI) Planning Grants. CNI Planning Grants support the development of comprehensive neighborhood revitalization plans which focus on directing resources to address three core goals: Housing, People and Neighborhoods. To achieve these core goals, communities must develop and implement a comprehensive neighborhood revitalization strategy, or Transformation Plan. The Transformation Plan will become the guiding document for the revitalization of public and/or assisted housing units while simultaneously directing the transformation of the surrounding neighborhood.
Eligible applicants are Public Housing Authorities (PHAs), local governments, tribal entities, nonprofits, and for-profit developers that apply jointly with a public entity. There is a $300,000 award ceiling for each project; all application materials must be submitted electronically by May 01, 2012.
