HUD recently launched its Sustainable Construction in Indian Country initiative, which is charged with exploring impediments to sustainable construction practices in Native communities, and suggesting solutions to these impediments. As part of this effort, HUD recently held a meeting in conjunction with 2011 Greener Homes Summit, where governmental, nongovernmental, and tribal focus groups offered observations regarding impediments to sustainable construction in Native communities. Four impediments were identified.
