Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick has named Aaron Gornstein as the new undersecretary for Housing and Community Development. Gornstein replaces Tina Brooks, who left the position earlier this year to become the executive vice president of programs for Local Initiatives Support Corporation. Gornstein is a veteran affordable housing advocate who has spent the past 21 years as the executive director of the Citizens’ Housing and Planning Association (CHAPA) where he advocated for state and federal affordable housing programs. NH&RA awarded Gornstein its 2005 Affordable Housing Vision Award. The Award honors affordable housing and community development leaders for their invaluable contributions and years of dedications to providing affordable apartments to American families. “In a challenging economic environment, Aaron brings to the Patrick Administration unparalleled record of leadership, experience and knowledge in affordable housing and community development,” said NH&RA Executive Director Thom Amdur. “I think I probably speak for the entire Massachusetts affordable housing community when I say we are excited to continue our work with him in his new role.”
