The Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) recently announced the formation of a subsidiary, the Corporation for Affordable Housing (CAH), which was created in order to provide additional development of public housing in the state of Alaska. This move comes after Governor Sean Parnell signed a law last May allowing AHFC to acquire, develop, manage and operate affordable housing. The primary purpose of CAH will be to take advantage of financing options for the expansion of public housing including a pool of federal funding that is not currently being fully utilized by the state such as bond financing and the non-competitive Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC).
