According to a new green housing report, Connecticut and Georgia top the rankings among states when it comes to energy efficient affordable housing development. Global Green USA recently released its fifth annual green building rating summary of state qualified allocation plans (QAP). The report, entitled “Making Affordable Housing Truly Affordable: Green Building Criteria in 2009 State Low Income Housing Tax Credit Programs” analyzed each state’s 2009 QAP, as well as accompanying or supporting documents, and ranked them based on the inclusion of green building strategies in each of four categories — Smart Growth, Energy Efficiency, Resource Conservation, and Health Protection. The results of the study further highlighted the trend of states incorporating an increasing number of green building requirements in their QAPs, with thirty-four states improving their scores from the previous year. The top ten states in green building (with their scores) are:
- Connecticut (50)
- Georgia (50)
- Maryland (48)
- Washington (44)
- New Jersey (44)
- Massachusetts (43)
- Minnesota (40)
- New York (40)
- Vermont (39)
